Famous brands can do it, bloggers can do it and even superstar personalities can do it. But how do they get so many followers on their social media platforms?
It seems to take no effort for these people and companies to gain hundreds of followers, yet there you are working so hard to gain only one or two new followers a week.
But there are ways to optimise the way you are working to boost your followers on any social platform, in a scientific way.
- Timings
Pay attention to the time of day that are the most effective for you. Record how many likes, followers, shares, click throughs and retweets you get for each post you get and over time you can see which times are the most effective. General research currently shows that the most effective times are after 3pm to early evening to get the most reactions, so start there and compare to different times. - Share quality
Social media is often split between two types of sharers; inward and outward sharers. Inward sharers will tend to post information about themselves whereas outward sharers tend to share information that is valuable to readers. Now, there is nothing wrong with inward sharers, in fact 80% of social media post are inward, evidence shows that outward sharing builds twice as many followers. This doesn’t mean you have to only share useful information and never mention anything about your yourself or your business, just make sure the majority of posts are useful and informative for your audience. - Be social
It’s called social media for a reason, make sure your accounts like, share and comment on others’ work. Be genuine with you comments as people will see straight through lies – you are trying to boost followers not put people off. Ask questions in your posts to encourage comments and shares, use hashtags, and encourage others to use them to build a community and to gain more content for your account. Don’t be frightened to ask users to “like if you agree” or to tag friends.
